Overview

Waste Management- what it is, who it's for.

What it is

Waste management is the licensed collection, segregation, transfer and disposal of waste streams produced by households, landlords, estates, builders and commercial premises. Done properly it covers far more than skip hire - it includes load assessment, lawful classification under EA waste codes, segregation of recyclables, safe handling of any controlled or hazardous fraction, and the paperwork that proves the chain of custody from your doorstep to the licensed facility.

Who it's for

We work for private homeowners clearing an estate, letting agents preparing properties between tenancies, landlords dealing with abandoned belongings, solicitors administering probate, builders shifting strip-out waste, and commercial premises needing scheduled or one-off collections. If the waste was produced on your property, the legal duty of care sits with you until it reaches a licensed facility - we take that duty off your hands in writing.

When to call

Call us when a skip is the wrong tool (access too tight, neighbours, council permits), when waste is mixed or partially hazardous, when tenancies are turning over fast, when probate is moving and the property must be empty by completion, or when a build is finishing and trades have left behind a mixed pile of materials. We also run scheduled collections for letting portfolios and small commercial sites.

Why professional matters

Fly-tipping fines for unlicensed disposal can reach £50,000 plus 12 months' imprisonment, and the householder remains liable if their waste is later found dumped. A Registered Waste Carrier with current upper-tier authorisation, proper insurance and a paper trail is the only way to discharge that legal duty completely.

What Happens If It's Left

The cost of delayis rarely the cost you see.

The hidden cost of getting waste wrong isn't the collection price - it's what happens afterwards.

  • Personal fines for fly-tipping

Even if you paid someone else, if they fly-tip your waste the Environment Agency can prosecute YOU under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act. We've seen homeowners hit with £400 fixed penalties because their 'man with a van' wasn't registered.

  • Insurance & landlord liability

Landlord insurers and letting agreements increasingly require documented waste transfer for end-of-tenancy work. Missing paperwork can void claims or delay deposit returns.

  • Hazardous waste in the load

Lithium batteries, paint tins, asbestos, fridges, mattresses, plasterboard - all have specific disposal routes. A general carrier mixing them risks contaminating an entire load and triggering rejection fees at the transfer station.

  • Delays at completion

Probate sales, tenancy turnovers and build finishes all run to deadlines. A no-show collection or a part-load left behind can cost more in delays than the entire clearance was worth.

Our Process

A defined sequence.Documented at every step.

  1. STEP 01

    Enquiry & Brief

Call Shaun directly or submit the form. We confirm address, access, waste types likely to be present and rough volume - usually within 30 minutes.

  2. STEP 02

    Free On-Site Assessment

A crew lead attends within 24 hours, classifies the waste against EA codes, identifies any hazardous fraction and confirms vehicle access.

  3. STEP 03

    Written Fixed-Fee Quote

You receive a written estimate with the price, the disposal routes for each fraction, the licensed facilities we'll use and the proposed date - no hourly creep.

  4. STEP 04

    Collection & Segregation

Trained operatives load, segregating recyclables, WEEE and any hazardous items on-site. The property is left swept.

  5. STEP 05

    Lawful Disposal

Loads are taken to permitted transfer stations and recycling centres. Where possible we recover, reuse or recycle - typical diversion-from-landfill rates exceed 80%.

  6. STEP 06

    Documentation & Sign-Off

You receive Waste Transfer Notes, photographic before/after evidence and a completion certificate for your records, insurer or auditor.

Why It's Worth Doing Properly

Specific outcomes.Not vague promises.

Every benefit below is something you can measure, document or hand to an insurer - not a slogan.

Legally watertight

Every load comes with a Waste Transfer Note (or Consignment Note for hazardous) - your Section 34 duty discharged in writing.

One number, one invoice

Mixed loads, multiple fractions, awkward access - we coordinate it all and bill you once.

Faster than skip + permits

No road licence, no waiting for skip swaps, no neighbour disputes. Crew arrives, loads, leaves.

Higher recycling rate

Segregating on-site rather than at a tip means more material is recovered - better for the audit trail and the environment.

Insurer-friendly paperwork

Documentation is formatted to be accepted by landlord insurers, loss adjusters and local authorities without follow-up.

Same crew, every visit

For scheduled commercial or portfolio work, you get a named contact and a known crew - not a different agency van each time.

In Detail

Methods, materialsand the situations we handle.

Marsh Environmental holds an upper-tier Environment Agency Waste Carrier, Broker and Dealer licence, which authorises us to handle every category of waste below. Each fraction is routed to a specific licensed facility - never landfilled by default.

Household & estate waste

Furniture, soft furnishings, kitchenware, textiles, books, electricals. Reusable items are diverted to local charities and reuse networks; the remainder is sorted at our transfer point. Common with house clearance, probate and downsizing.

Construction, demolition & strip-out waste

Plasterboard (handled as a separate stream - never mixed), timber, rubble, tiles, metals, mixed inert. We weigh in and out so trade clients get accurate per-tonne pricing for their job costing.

WEEE - fridges, freezers, white goods, electricals

F-gas containing appliances (fridges, freezers, AC units) are routed to authorised WEEE processors for degassing under the F-Gas Regulations. We never tip white goods at standard transfer stations.

Hazardous & special waste

Paint, oils, asbestos (with appropriate licensed sub-contractor), batteries, sharps, contaminated absorbents. Each consignment is documented under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 with a separate Consignment Note.

Garden & green waste

Vegetation, soil, branches, turf. Routed to commercial composting facilities. We also handle Japanese knotweed under controlled procedures if identified on site.

Commercial & landlord scheduled collection

Office clear-outs, retail unit refits, multi-property letting portfolios. We can run a recurring collection schedule with consolidated monthly invoicing and a single point of contact.

How much does a waste collection cost in Wirral or Liverpool?

Pricing is by volume and waste type, not by the hour. A typical Transit-van load (roughly equivalent to 8 cubic yards of mixed household waste) is in the region of £180–£260 across our service area. Hazardous and WEEE loads are priced separately. You always receive a fixed written quote before we book the date.

How quickly can you collect?

Standard collection is within 3–5 working days. Same-day and next-day slots are usually available for urgent end-of-tenancy or completion-deadline work - call us directly for a same-week slot.

Do I need a permit?

No. Because we collect rather than place a skip, you don't need a council road permit. We park on the property or directly outside while loading.

Can you take hazardous items like fridges, paint or asbestos?

Yes. Fridges and freezers are routed to authorised WEEE processors; paint and oils are taken under hazardous waste consignment notes; asbestos is handled by a licensed sub-contractor with full notification. We'll identify these at the assessment stage.

Will I get paperwork?

Every job comes with a Waste Transfer Note (and Consignment Notes for any hazardous fraction), photographic evidence and a completion certificate. We retain copies for our statutory two years.

What happens to the waste?

Loads are taken to permitted transfer stations across Merseyside and Cheshire where they are sorted for recovery. Our typical diversion-from-landfill rate exceeds 80%. We can name the destination facility on request.

Do you offer scheduled commercial collections?

Yes. We run weekly, fortnightly and monthly collections for letting portfolios, small commercial premises and trade clients, with consolidated invoicing and a named account contact.

Are you available out of hours?

Our office line runs 24/7 and we can attend emergency contamination, flood-damage or post-incident clearance at night or weekends - pricing is confirmed in writing before mobilisation.
