What it is
Bio-hazard clean up is the controlled decontamination of properties affected by biological contamination - blood, bodily fluids, sharps (needles, syringes), sewage release, animal carcasses and droppings, and infectious disease outbreaks. It uses dedicated PPE, RPE, EN 14476-certified virucidal disinfectants, and hazardous waste consignment under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005.
Who it's for
We are called by landlords discovering needles, sharps or contamination in abandoned tenancies; housing associations responding to communal area incidents; commercial premises handling sewage backflow or contaminated washrooms; insurers and loss adjusters coordinating remediation; families and executors dealing with severely contaminated estates; and occasionally GPs and care providers needing post-incident decontamination.
When to call
Call when there is any biological contamination beyond the scope of standard cleaning - discovered sharps, sewage backflow, animal carcass in a void or loft, contamination following an infectious incident, or any situation where bloodborne pathogen exposure is a risk. The earlier we attend, the more of the building fabric we can save.
Why professional matters
Biological contamination is invisible at the pathogen level. Hepatitis B remains infective on dry surfaces for up to seven days; sharps injuries can transmit HIV, hepatitis C and tetanus; sewage carries E. coli, salmonella, hepatitis A, leptospirosis and norovirus. None of this can be addressed by domestic cleaning - it requires PPE, certified disinfectants and hazardous waste disposal.
